The selection of the operating system is usually based on the skill-set of the development team, client requirements and application requirements. Below we have listed some strong and weak points between OSX, Windows and Linux. We give our customers freedom to choose their own hardware and environment, as that gives better possibilities to meet the various project needs.
OS X
Pros:
- Easy software setup (no patches, no permission tricks).
Cons:
- Mac Pros are expensive.
- Mediocre performance, compared to the hardware.
- OpenGL drivers lag behind Windows and Linux.
Windows
Pros:
- Good availability of third-party software.
Cons:
- Requires extra drivers and patching to get it to work.
- Multi-Cell setups typically require extra tweaking to get them to work.
Linux
Pros:
- Good customization possibilities.
- High performance.
- Recommended as a tracking computer for older Cells (=MT32x, MT46x).
Cons:
- Hardware compatibility can be an issue.
- May require special skills from the development/deployment team.
